Restoration vs. Conservation

So seeking the aid of a professional restorer also makes good sense. A knowledgeable restorer will know what to do, how to do it and how far to go when restoring your possessions.

A conservator on the other hand can do what a restorer can but will stop short of full restoration by not replacing missing parts and only maintaining an existing finish.  Conservation is mostly left for museum pieces and high-end private collections.  Most of the important furniture you own will need the help of a restorer more than a conservator.

Touch Up

Our artisans can bring their expertise into your home to perform onsiterepairs and maintenance of your fine furniture and antiques.  We are able to perform many services including veneer and wood repairs; cleaning, touch up and waxing of finishes; French polishing and minor finish restoration.

Repair

We pride ourselves in doing quality repairs that will last over the long term. Our experts will dismantle loose chairs, clean and rebuild joinery if necessary, and glue them back together to last many years. We are highly skilled at rebuilding joinery for any type of furniture, antique, vintage or new; and repairing loose and missing veneer is a specialty at our shop.

Appraisal Services

Bill Oakley has been a member of appraisal societies since 2000 and was accredited through the International Society of Appraisers education program with The University of Maryland in 2004.
He continues his appraisal and antique furniture/decorative arts education through a variety of courses and seminars through the ISA, NYU School of Continuing Education and The Appraisers Association of America.  His specialty is in American and European furniture from the 18th Century to the present and is also pursuing the other decorative arts including Fine Arts and photography.
